Rent Well, a program of Transition Projects, is a 15-hour tenant education program taught by certified instructors throughout Oregon and Washington that gives renters the foundational tools and skill set to become responsible, successful, and stable tenants.

 

Rent Well is a renter’s program open to low-income members of the Lane County community who are at least 18 years of age and one of the following:

  • At risk of losing housing 
  • In a Transitional Housing Program
  • Working with other agencies to secure housing
  •  

    In Rent Well, students learn to:

    • Identify potential screening barriers
    • Understand how and why a landlord will screen them
    • Review important personal records; such as credit, civil and criminal reports
    • Create an individualized plan for stable housing
    • Build a household budget that makes paying rent a priority
    • Review rental agreements to understand common terms and expectations
    • Understand the landlord’s perspective
    • Communicate effectively with neighbors and landlords
    • Move in and out of rental units in a professional manner
    • Understand the eviction process and how to avoid it
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy home
    •  

      Each graduate of the program is given access to a Landlord Incentive Fund.
      Access is a guarantee that can be presented to a future landlord and acts as insurance for renting to the program graduate.

      Additional Rent Guarantee assistance is available to those who meet eligibility requirements.

      Class sizes are limited to 12. There is a waitlist available to each class for those who are able to attend the first class.

      Class schedule: The first class is scheduled for November 30, 2022 and there is a class starting February 1, 2023.
